CrFA India and FINDFIN Foundation Bring Forensic Accounting Education to CIET Dehradun

CrFA India Expands University Outreach Through Forensic Accounting Workshop in Dehradun

CrFA India, represented by Dr. Sharad Kumar, continued its university outreach efforts with a forensic accounting awareness workshop held on 2 August 2026 at the Central Institute of Engineering & Technology in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.

The event was organized by FINDFIN Foundation as part of its continuing collaboration with CrFA India to promote the Certified Forensic Accountant (CrFA) certification among students, faculty members, government institutions, industry organizations, and working professionals across India.

The workshop introduced participants to the growing role of forensic accounting in fraud detection, financial investigation, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, anti-money laundering, and financial crime prevention.

It also provided an overview of the CrFA certification, including its professional scope, learning areas, and potential career applications for individuals interested in accounting, audit, risk, compliance, investigations, and financial intelligence.

Binod Dobhal, Founder, Managing Director and CEO of FINDFIN Foundation, led the discussion during the workshop and explained why early exposure to forensic accounting has become increasingly important for students and future professionals.

“As financial fraud becomes more complex, there is a growing need to equip students and professionals with practical knowledge in forensic accounting and financial investigation. Through our collaboration with CrFA India, we aim to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements while helping build a stronger ecosystem of ethical and competent finance professionals,” Dobhal said.

He added that financial literacy must go beyond basic knowledge of savings, investments, and personal finance. It should also include awareness of fraud risks, financial misconduct, digital threats, and the controls needed to protect individuals and organizations.

FINDFIN Foundation has been actively supporting initiatives related to financial literacy, fraud awareness, digital inclusion, professional development, and financial crime prevention. Its role in organizing the Dehradun workshop reflects its broader objective of improving public understanding of financial risks while helping institutions strengthen their capabilities in fraud prevention and financial integrity.

Representing CrFA India, Dr. Sharad Kumar said universities have an important role in developing professionals who can respond to the changing demands of accounting, audit, compliance, and investigation.

“Forensic accounting is no longer a niche specialization. Organizations across both the public and private sectors are seeking professionals who can examine financial evidence, identify fraud risks, strengthen internal controls, and support governance. By introducing these concepts at the university level, we can help students understand the wider career opportunities available to them,” Kumar said.

The Certified Forensic Accountant certification is designed to build competencies in forensic accounting, fraud examination, financial statement analysis, investigation, evidence handling, internal control assessment, anti-money laundering, digital fraud, and forensic reporting.

For students, exposure to the discipline can open career pathways beyond traditional accounting roles. These may include forensic audit, internal audit, corporate investigations, fraud risk management, regulatory compliance, anti-money laundering, litigation support, financial intelligence, and advisory work.

The workshop also emphasized that modern financial crime increasingly involves digital transactions, complex corporate structures, cross-border activity, and technology-enabled fraud. These developments have increased the need for professionals who can combine accounting knowledge with analytical, investigative, and ethical judgment.

The Dehradun event forms part of a broader outreach programme by FINDFIN Foundation and CrFA India to promote forensic accounting education through universities, professional institutions, government bodies, and industry groups.

Both organizations plan to conduct additional workshops, awareness programmes, and professional development activities in other parts of India as they continue to expand access to forensic accounting education and certification.

Through these initiatives, FINDFIN Foundation and CrFA India aim to help build a stronger pipeline of professionals equipped to support financial integrity, detect misconduct, improve governance, and respond to emerging financial crime risks.
